Boyolali – Students of IDBU-13 thematic Real Work course (KKN-T) Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) developed the Library Guide feature (Pathfinder) along with the admin panel on the Baca di Teras website. The development is one of the efforts to support the transformation of digital services of the Teras Village Library, Teras District, Boyolali regency.
Pathfinder is a library guide or subject guide feature designed to help people learn a topic more directly. Unlike the library catalog that focuses on searching collections, Pathfinder presents information by subject so that users can get an initial idea of a topic while finding relevant learning resources on one page.
The development of the Pathfinder feature is one of the work programs carried out by Syafiq Abiyyu Taqi, a student of the S1 Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University. In its implementation, this program was developed collaboratively with students of KKN-t IDBU-13 UNDIP from the Computer Engineering, Library Science, and Informatics study programs through content preparation, reference collection, and system development.
Currently, Pathfinder provides eight literacy categories, namely language and literature, environment, agriculture and animal husbandry, health and family, education and science, economics and entrepreneurship, self-development, and history, culture, and religion.
On each subject, visitors can access a variety of supporting information, ranging from introduction, learning objectives, recommendations for relevant book collections, tips and guides, to Pathfinder documents in PDF format that can be downloaded as study materials.
Until the end of the implementation of the KKN-T program in July 2026, the development of the Pathfinder feature has reached around 95 percent. In addition to providing services that can be accessed by the public, the system is also equipped with an admin panel to assist library managers in adding, changing, or deleting Pathfinder data without having to make changes directly to the code or website system.
The development of the admin panel is expected to make it easier for Teras Village Library managers to update content independently. Thus, the sustainability of the service depends not only on the developer, but can be managed directly by the library as needed.
In the process of developing the Pathfinder feature, one of the challenges faced is to design a display that is able to present various information in a structured and easily understood by users. In addition, the preparation of each subject also requires a process of collection, selection, and grouping of references so that the material displayed remains relevant to the library collection and the learning needs of the community.
As part of continued development, the admin panel will continue to be refined so that managers can add library collections, tips and guides, and other supporting materials directly on each subject. The feature is expected to allow Pathfinder content to be continuously updated as the collection and information needs of the community develop.
The Pathfinder feature can be accessed via bacaditeras.my.id/pathfinder. meanwhile, information on various digital reading services on Teras, including the main website, website usage guide, library management module, as well as other supporting resources, is available through linktr.ee/baca_di_teras.
Through the development of Pathfinder, the community gained a more targeted learning alternative because information is not only presented in the form of collection lists. Users can also get an introduction to the material, learning objectives, reading recommendations, as well as supporting learning resources on one page.
For the Teras Village Library, Pathfinder is one of the digital service innovations that can be continuously developed to support community literacy activities while increasing the utilization of library collections.
The development of this feature is also in line with efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4: Quality Education through providing access to more inclusive and targeted learning, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the use of technology in the development of library services, and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities through strengthening literacy culture and the use of digital-based public facilities in Teras Village.
